Abstracts

The Wilderness and Its Ordeals in Igbo Cosmogony (Nigeria). – The notion of “space” in Igbo culture is explored through words in the language, the intention being to define the meeting grounds between human and supernatural interactions. Based on written literature (by Pita Nwana and Chinua Achebe in particular) and on folklore gathered in the field, this analysis situates this meeting grounds in space and time and identifies its place in Igbo cosmogony. It reveals the sway of the supernatural over daily life and literature in Igboland.
